Kavod Addiction Recovery Center supports the individual (addict) to move through the 30 Task program.  The focus is to gain abstinence and then develop skills that make recovery central to living a healthy life.  The 30 tasks in Patrick Carnes’ PhD Facing the Shadow workbook are a comprehensive approach to developing a rewarding life for the addict.

Our Programs for Men and Women

We currently have groups for the sex addict (groups for men and a group for women) and a group for wives and partners of the sex addict.  We encourage membership in 12 Step groups.

Individuals begin with meeting with their therapist who will help them to evaluate whether a sex addiction diagnosis is appropriate.  To aid in making a diagnosis/assessment, we use the Sexual Dependence Inventory (SDI).   Individuals can begin treatment in several ways.

1.    Individual sessions with their therapist.

2.    Individual sessions linked with entrance into our Intensive Outpatient Program (using the Recovery Start Kit and Facing the Shadow).

3.    Individual sessions linked with entrance into our Phase 1 Treatment Group (using the Facing the Shadow workbook).

For the sex addict, our program is structured into Three Phases

FOR THE SEX ADDICT

Phase One - Gaining Abstinence and Developing Skills for Recovery

Phase Two - The Recovery Zone Vol. 1, Making Changes that Last, the Internal Tasks

Phase Three - Developing Healthy, Balanced Lifestyle Practices, Family Health, Establishing Healthy Sexuality

For Couples and the Family

Addiction traumatizes the entire family as well as individual members.  We utilize tasks that enable the family to respond to the trauma. Spouses or partners are encouraged to join a partners group and receive therapy, aided by the use of a task centered treatment model.  We have periodic couple’s workshops.

Recovering Couples Anonymous

In the hope of developing long term support of couples, marriages and families, Kavod is working to start a 12 Step Program, new to Rochester, called Recovering Couples Anonymous (RCA).  The history and philosophy of RCA can be found on the web at www.recovering-couples.org/
